Access affordable treatment
We encourage you to obtain a mental health treatment plan (MHTP) from your GP so the Australian government will cover your costs for therapy through Medicare. Getting a MHTP is also helpful to keep your GP in the loop about any new mental health treatments you’re receiving so they can help support you too.
Online group therapy rebates
In regard to accessing therapy online (aka ‘telehealth’), it becomes a little tricky… but we’ll do our best to explain!
Although individual telehealth sessions can be accessed through Medicare for all Australians, group telehealth sessions can only be accessed by Australians living in regional areas. We know… these restrictions aren’t ideal and we wish group telehealth sessions could be accessed by all Aussies, but unfortunately these are the Medicare limits.
To find out if your postcode is in a regional area, check here. You need to reside in a 'Modified Monash’ (MM) model area 4 to 7 to be eligible for the Medicare rebate for telehealth group sessions.
